it is beatable
Monday was a very difficult day on the water for me. I was not able to get to Cache Bay as I have no way to tow my boat right now. I went to lake watchamacallit instead. My mom was a real trooper, portaging right before dark when the mosquitoes were thick and making the long paddle out after dark. I found it hard to get anything going cause the dang wind could not make up its mind. I only managed to dabble in a few walleyes during the day but had a great evening bit trolling rapalas. My best 5 fish total was 93". 23+19+17.5+17+16.5

On Tuesday the steady south wind made life easier, plus I went back to my old tactics of letting a slip bobber drift to the fish. My mom caught the biggest fish of the day and the average size fish was excellent.

Would have posted sooner, but it is just too difficult to type at 70mph! had something stolen(most likely) at a portage, posted it, and then gave up typing!!
Well, you got me. I had 3groups of fish spotted, but because of the wind, I could only fish one. Still caught 20 or so, that totalled 71in., best was 15.5in., no pic cause it is still just an eater. My "upgrade" areas were also windswept, and difficult to work properly. fish came on black, and white grubs. My "upgrade" pattern, on 5in and 5.5in. Big Hammer swimbaits, produced fish to 20in. on Sat. and Sun., but not Mon. Congratulations!!!! I will get the bandana in the works.
Still considewr fishing on Shell to be very good. Caught fish in 4-8ft. of water from light(morning) to dark. Moved to Upper Pauness on Tues., and the fishing was simply great, still with grubs in 3-7ft. of water. Actually difficult to sleep, what with the Beavers dropping several trees per night and the Wolves howling(full moon I guess).
I think wifey and I will be up in latter Sept. for a "Fall Foliage and Walleye Tour". Maybe we can do a meet and greet at the Gunflint Tavern then, dates of our trip not set.
your Mom is a real trooper, beautiful fish.

bassnut- There is a beer for Terry from OK at the Gunflint Tavern if you make it up to Grand Marais this fall. Sounds like you found Tuesday to be a more productive fishing day as well.

Yea, the cloud cover just really set them off. Sat. and Sun. were tough...darn near flat calm and sunny. We will be up again late Sept., BWCA-ing and bicycling. Know a good trail?
