Does anyone have experience fishing artificial leeches? If so, what's type of rig do you use? Thanks.

Have used Slimers and Berkley Power leeches. The Slimers are very life like, but you must make sure your hook passes through a fiber strip they have in the body to assure it staying on. It's named a 3 inch Grub/Leech on the package. Use it with a jig, or troll with a plain hook or spinner rig, much the same as a live one.

I use berkley power leeches and have had good success. I use a floating jig head with the leech and a sinker of personal choice about 18" above the jig. This keeps the jig off the bottom but close enough for some good action.

Al Lindner says that GULP! artificial leaches and worms in natural colors can produce just as well as live bait when fished on jigs or on lindy rigs. I am going to try this technique in a few weeks in the BWCA. He spoke about them on his fishing program this morning...

If you can't trust Al, who can you trust?

I have used GULP since it came out....mostly minnows & leeches. They work well fishing the same techniques as with live bait and produce almost as well. You can usually catch multiple fish with each bait. Highly recommend it.

I fish them just like I do a real leech on a jig. Seem to work just as well. I use the Gulp grubs also on a jig.

As I posted earlier, the Slimer is the most life like product that I have ever seen.

Is Slimer similar to Gulp? I've been doing some shopping for fishing tackle before my trip on the 23rd and haven't seen this product. Any ideas what stores i could find them at?

The Slimer comes in a white plastic tube with cover, similar to a 35mm film container, except twice as long. We have them at our shop, if you ever get to Ely.

They are so slippery, that it is difficult to hold them in your hand. They are about the size of a large leech. You can catch 2-3 fish with each one, normally. They have very good action when trolled with a jig or plain hook.

I have only used the Gulp crawler, not the leech, so I can't compare them.

there is another product out i have looked into but haven't tried yet put out by food source lures (www.fslures.com) it is made from 100% real food products and according to the rep will completely disappear in about 3 weeks. good for the environment and supposed to be good for fishing.

The Detroit FreePress had an article about the Food Source products last week. The writer stated he did as well, and sometimes better using the Food Source bait then he did the natural bait. He was fishing for Steelhead, Browns, and Salmon, if I remember correctly. He spoke highly of it. I tried to by some at a store they had listed on their web site, but the store didn't have any. I want to buy some of there leeches and try them this summer.
