I was told that there is a place in Quetico where it isnt uncommon to catch 200 Smallies a day??? Any truth to this? Where is this spot???

I suspect that if the location became common knowledge the big numbers would be a thing of the past.

Try the big submerged rock pile straight out from the dead pine tree. We've always nailed 'em there :)

Jean Lake my brother, Jean Lake.p.s. If you go in early June and know what your doing you can catch over 200 on Saganaga.

There's that one spot where the current is running out of a creek into the lake, always hundreds of smallies there. :)

I never really caught more than 100 a day in Jean.

Fallen trees submerged in the water. They stack up like cordwood in there. We have been to several BWCA lakes where we could have caught 200 smallies in a day, if we fished non stop all day.
Lets do the math; 12 hours divided by 200 fish = 16.67 fish per hour. Thats 1 fish every 3.6 minutes. Thats pretty reasonable if you're on a smallie hot spot/lake. Even easier for 2 people.

Yes, there are many spots like this but only if you are really trying to catch walleyes.

I have over 20 days where we've caught 100 or more.........only a few that are close to 200.

A couple of guys I go with...who go to another area of the park now REGULARLY catch 200 a day.......

I will not even tell you what there MAX for the day is, because you will say BULLSHIT......

But I will say this.....I saw them........with my OWN EYES catch over 200 and they day was still young......

And when I say we/I caught 100 or so..that is boat numbers with 2 guys in a boat. I have no idea how many I or my partner personally caught.....we only bring one COUNTER..and we only count smallies. If we counter northerns and other fish, I bet that number would easly be 30-40 more.

I should also say that I regularly have 100 fish days on KY and Barkley Lake in KY....

Later,

Geo

A partner and I boated over 100 in a 4 hour float down the upper Mississippi a couple of summers ago, including several over 4 pounds.

Ain't that the truth. Last August we were slaying smallies on Disappointment. I bet between two of us we were catching damned near 200. Don't have to go all the way to the Q.
Upper Mississippi north of, in and below Ripley. Give it a try.

I probably have caught 100 fish a day in the Quetico, but I dont keep an accurate count I simply enjoy each fish. Anthony

Catching 200 smallies in a day is easy. Now, you didn't say they needed to be > 6". :)

Wow! I've been humbled. I'm not sure if I have ever reeled in more than 50 fish in a day; even when I used to fish for smallmouth and brookies, or when I lived in Alaska and had days (long days) of fairly nonstop action for pinks and silvers.

I fish Quetico a lot each summer. I'll never catch 200 smallies in a day because I'm too old...and too weak...I get tired after the first 25 or so...so I usually only fish a couple hours each day...and Quetico is just about all fished out anyways! :-)

I'd rather catch trophies (20 inches and up) than a huge number of smallish smallies.

Would you rather have a day where you catch 100 12-15 inchers or just 5 fish but all over 20 inches?

I would take the five every time, there are however times in the spring when you can catch over 100 bass and most of them will be over 3 pounds, just depends on the lake and the time of year.

If I had to choose, I would go with 105, I want them all :)
