Take a look at this area and tell me your thoughts about fishing little bays. It is fairly long and narrow of a main lake, and flattens out into some unspectacular structure to the west. Couple coves to try and a point or two, but otherwise not much. Do you go all the way to the shallow back area looking for weeds, or may stay up by the islands and pinch points closer to the main lake.

Same as the island posting: August 1st for eyes, NP, and SMB. Moreso northerns and smallies here I would think.

Not sure about the fishing on Wind Lake (I'd be hitting breaks and humps off of the islands to the east and north myself), but I understand that the island campsite is stellar with a sand beach for landing canoes.

All right, show off, that one was a little easier. But still, I'm impressed.

Several comments:

1) For big pike, I look mostly for weeds. They may be in shoreline shallows or in submerged weeds that you can only see the very tops in deeper water. However, I troll and have caught some super big pike out in open water away from all "structure" and "cover" where they are suspended near schools of forage.

2) The map has 10 ft gradient lines, and wherever they are close together indicates a steep drop-off. I would jig for walleye on the drop-offs as well as use live bait on a bobber (set at increasingly deeper levels.) Once you find the depth the fish are holding, look for areas with similar depth and contour.

3) If you can find a submerged "hump" - that's super. Fish it every chance - morning, evening, at night (if you fish at night) as these are magnets for fish feeding.

4) Yes- fish windy "pinch points" or passes where current is flowing. I usually do better when drifting with the current, but sometimes get bites going both ways.

5) The 20 ft depth may be too shallow for summer. If no luck in a day or two with various techniques - look for deeper water. There is a 30 ft line on your map.

6) If lots of sun and "blue bird" days - look for weeds. Fish will ALWAYS hide in weeds. Only question is whether you can get a bait close to them and if they will bite. However, I can assure you - there are fish there.

The Old Hoosier is right on: weeds, baby, weeds.

And from having been on Wind in late July, I can tell you that there are plenty of weeds in the bays. We stayed on the campsite in the narrows, just north (& a bit east) of the island campsite on your map. There's another huge, shallow bay back there, & we caught a bunch of pike & a few smallmouth just drifting through the weed beds back there. Caught a nice pike (& had a huge one whack a smallie I was reeling in) along the sharp breaks on the western side of that island.

There's an old portage, not on the map, leading into Washte too, if you're feeling adventurous. We didn't fish it, but I've read reports of bass in there, too.

Lastly, wouldn't bother with the eyes. Per the outfitter we talked to they're few & far between, & the guys in the camp across from us hadn't caught one in two days of fishing.
