Just wondering of any of you guys have made home made scents. Not for a stink bait for cats, but something you can store plastics in. Over on Larry Dahlberg's forum, he mentions using whatever scent you want - anise oil, vanilla etc, placed in some vegetable oil as the base. That's it. Has anyone ever tried something like that? I'm thinking it might work well enough (and be dirt cheap), to just use basic unscented plastic worms/grubs with it. I don't use a lot of scented (Gulp/powerbait) stuff anyway, but I feel like experimenting this year.

I'm sure almost anything would work, even just masking human scent, may be a factor. I am wondering though just how long the scent would stay on and be active. With powerbait and the like, I guess the scent is part of the mix so its always there. Maybe I might inject the scent. Anyway, it will be an interesting experiment, maybe using identical baits (except for one not having the scent) side by side and seeing how the fish react.

No lie WD 40. This works on ice fishing tube baits. Take a cotton ball stuff the tube spray in the WD40. We would use a glow tube and kill trout with this set up. My buddy uses alkaceltzer for tubes when fishing for bass. I bet the WD would work on hard baits in summer. Have not tried though.

I am from Cape Cod and we always used some WD-40 on our hard baits when we fished for Stripers.
