Going in EP26 to ... Back Bay, then near Basswood falls then Wind Lake, in August. Sounds like most of the lay over time will be in Wind. All suggestions welcome!

Washte Lake check it out. The dam that you have to go over to get in it is pretty cool. It's just a short portage from Wind. It's a shallow lake but does have some large mouth bass. Little somethin' to do.

You might want to check out Indiana Lake while you are in the area. Probably have the lake to yourself and you can find some decent largemouth and smallmouth in there if that is of interest to you.

Stayed on Wind in July on the kid's first trip, really nice lake. Despite being an entry point lake, if you can get one of the campsites away from the thoroughfare, it feels pretty quiet. We did go over to Washte but didn't fish much. Pike & bass on Wind are willing, try the big bay on the northeast part of the lake, shallow & weedy & fishy.

Wind has good numbers of smallmouth and northerns, but they are smaller. Watshe had a nice population of largemouths in he 2 to 3 lb. class 6 years ago. Not sure if the results would be the same now. Wind is a nice lake. Get a campsite that is not in between the two main portages and you will feel quite isolated.

Decent camp site to left as you go toward moose. Make a U turn at fork and follow shore line to camp. Not a great bear bag hang, but site is quite suitable for basing to travel and fish. The year some 6 years ago when there, NO flies for the first time in a travel week.

I fished Wind in May a few years back. That particular year we found our luck on a fantastic rocky shoal along the whole southern shore toward the entrance to Washte. We caught several northern in the 32" - 38" range.
