Was watching the the sportsman's channel last night and they had a segment on the banjo minnow. They even had old Babe Winkelman endorsing it and catching pike , bass and lakers . I was just curious if anyone on here has ever tried it ? I normally only believe half of what I see on TV but it did look like it had some nice action .

No real improvement over BPS Squirmin' Shad or any other soft plastic minnow profile lure. Kinda pricey...Frankly, Plastic a little stiff, so the "great action" only works in Really warm water, above 85.

One of the guys in our group made this purchase before our 09 trip. The funny part is he was embarrassed that his wife would find out so he had them shipped to he parents house. (We are over 40 now)
He was so excited to try them that as soon as we started paddling he snuck on out of the back of the canoe and started trolling it. I did not realize until he caught a smallie for he first fish of the trip. I think it was the only fish he caught all week on them though.

Ha! I watched the same infomercial and was hooked. (sorry) I even taped it to watch at times when it wasn't running on tv. I was never so excited to try a lure in my life; whoever produced that video is a marketing genius. The thing is, in contrast to the other comments on this site I found that they worked just fine.
I only used them on my first trip, it was too windy to use them the next time I went and so they've spent the last 3 years sitting in my basement. But I'm definately going to bring them again this year.
One caveat: although I did catch fish on them, I have to admit that pretty much everything else we threw that day was producing fish as well.

My canoeing buddy bought this probably 10+ years ago. Has used it on 4 or 5 trips. He's caught a few fish on them - I seem to recall the white and the chartreuse colors worked best. Can't say I've noticed any significant difference in this lure versus other soft bait.

I bought the banjo minnow about the time that ad was new. Went out and had great success with it and caught northern and bass. Bought the new banjo minnow from Gander Mtn and had no luck what so ever. The thing that made the difference was the weighted hook you could put on.
