if H2O levels are down, take the port from Agnes. It's not that hard of a lake to get to.-- regardless of water levels. Can be on the lake in 4.5 hours from the nina moose landing-- easy with a good group. Did it 3.5 hours on the way out.

I'm probaby missing something, but how will they get to Agnes if the Nina Moose River is too low to get down to Oyster??

thanks for the info guys. our plan is to go up nina moose from ep16 to nina moose lake and then to lake anges then over to oyster. i guess i thought that with goin in on may 21, shortly after ice out?, there would be snow melt to keep the river up? or am i wrong in this thinking lol?

There isn't that much snow this year to make the Moose River go up.
However, that entire area is easily affected by rain as far as creeks and rivers go.
When I used to trap minnows on Moose River (west of the Echo Trail, on the Moose Loop), I've had the water go up as much as 6 feet overnight with a massive downpour.

I've done that trip a couple of times in May and always stayed on Agnes and day tripped to Oyster. The spot that was the toughest during low water was the flowage between Agnes and Oyster and that was with day trip gear. What I remember is that the water channel meanders and you want to follow it or you'll be pushing through muck. As for the fishing, I found that we sometimes had to get as deep as 30-40 feet.

I guess I meant with normal water levels. Have always been on the Moose early in the year,, and it never even crossed my mind that it would get low enough to stop a trip. Even mild winters--- 1999-2000 no problems. Now coming up the Horse from Crooked,, thats something I wouldn't want this year.... but I digress.

You are correct when you say a lot can happen between now and then.
But if it doesn't, it's gonna be impassable with the water we have left. (or one heck of a long portage) :)

Not saying it can't happen & please don't take this the wrong way. I'm just curious. Has not being able to get up to Agnes (due to low water on the Moose river) ever happened before?

quote ryebread26: "so as of now ep16 to anges might be too low to paddle up?"

pay for another entry permit. Just like many do during fires when entries are closed. Sometimes they give you a refund,, just depends on what the FS decides. Low water,, I don't think your getting a refund.
