Some of you may have seen my post in the General Discussion forum, but my wife and I will be making our first trip up to the BWCA in early September (probably enter the BWCA on September 9th). Our plan is to put in at the Lizz Lake, paddle into Horseshoe and then base camp there for 5 days. We'll make some day trips out fro there, but for the most part we'll be on Horseshoe.
My wife loves to fish, although she doesn't do it often, and I thought I would get some input so I can make the trip the best I can for her. So, with that in mind, can anyone give me some basic info on what kind of fishing I can expect, what lures I should be taking with me, what kind of strategies I should use (how deep to fish, topwater or not, etc), what lakes could we make a day trip to for more fishing, etc? My fishing experience is basically ponds and small lakes here around northern Indiana, and I've fished quite a bit over the years, but usually in the summer. I'm not sure how tactics need to be changed for the later part of the season.
Oh, and I should mention that we'll be using spinning rods. However, I have a fly rod that I enjoy using for bluegill and bass locally, so any fly fishing tips might persuade me to take my fly rod along also. Of course, a rookie to paddling probably shouldn't try using a fly rod in a canoe, eh? Lol!
Thanks in advance for any help!
