Hey! I have seen you suggest a rattlin rapala to multiple people including me. I picked 2 up today and was wondering what methods to use it in... where to cast it and how deep to run it. I got the blue/siver ones.

Leaving in 7 hours from fargo for the 7 hour drive to the gunflint!

It is a great search lure, and is really one of the easiest lures in the book to use. Depending on time of year I run paralell to the shorline and postion the canoe or boat so im casting into shallow water and bringing it back out deep, works great over rocks and rock rubble and over submerged weedbeds. You dont have to guess if you have a fish on because they hit it like a mack truck. If your on a lake with pike in it use a leader because Pike hit it like the lure said something about their momma. If your fishing a reef, circle around the the reef on the edge of it and cast up onto the reef, if the fish are active you will know in a hurry. Just make sure with this lure that your ready to reel as soon as the lure hits the water because it sinks fast and will snag often if you dont keep it moving. Blue silver works great for clear water, if your fishing tannin (iron) looking water or murky water use a crayfish or fire tiger colored one. Fish hammer this lure so hang on and good luck fishing.

the rattlin rap has always been my bread and butter lure for casting from camp , you can make long cast and its an attention getter, knowing what kind of depth is around you i just cast it out and count 10 seconds and rip it back. i have done very well on chrome black in clear water a brown crawdad might be good too? a friend of mine had good success on a faded looking blue gill rap untill a northern took it from him. ha-ha

Rattling rap, or the berkley version are both great lures to find fish. If they are active, they will just nail the thing, so be sure to use a leader any time you cast it.
