Stopped by your shop Wednesday and the guys said you were out fishing. Was hoping to chit chat a bit and pick up a leech king. I was successful in getting the leech king.
Anyone else out there looking for them? There are a ton of them at TGO's.
Thanks for getting them ordered and hope to see you next time. I'll be back up in three weeks

Thanks for stopping in.
I try to leave by 8 am, but normally don't make it out until a bit after 9.
Had a decent week of fishing, and it seems to be picking up.
The first 10+ days of July, fishing was really horrible!!

Maybe you can fill me in with all the hotspots when I'm back up.

Just curious...how many pounds of leeches will one of these Kings hold? Thanks

Though the small Leech King is bigger than other brands of leech buckets, I wouldn't put more than one pound in it with the surface temps being as warm as they are.

Thanks for the reply TGO, on my last trip in we purchased one pound of leeches in an oxygen bag and moved them over to two mesh bags once we got to our destination. Worked ok but the oxygen bag was a real pain to protect on the portages.

That's why we put the oxy pack with the leeches inside the leech container, making them easier to carry.
Many have their leech buckets packed away.
To start your trip out right, always bring your Leech King/Leech Locker/ etc into the bait shop so they can do this for you.
The mesh bags are really made for live wells in a boat.

Great Idea, one more thing we did the hard way on our first trip. I called and told my outfitter that I had heard of these lockers and that is what I wanted. He told me he would take care of it and I got the mesh bags. Not real pleased with my outfitter...told him I wanted a pound per person and he made me feel stupid for requesting that much. He asked me if we planned on eating them for h'ors d' oeurves. Completely ran out by day 2 and the fishing pretty much ended then also! When we got to our campsite and started looking through our bear barrels he did think it was appropriate to pack 4 loaves of sandwich bread and a loaf of french bread! Im a rookie but I feel like he should have known better, that is why I hired him. Sorry for the rant and the semi- high jack.

I'll admit it. I have no idea what the heck this oxy pack is. What is it? Obviously something that puts some O2 into the water but could you pass on the how's, what's and all that good stuff about these please. I've packed leeches into my other containers like the frabill which are a bit smaller and we end up losing many. Usually with constant water changeouts and keeping them sunk a bit at shore we have had enough to last a few days though. Since I only get up there to canoe 2 or 3 times a year now it hasn't been such a big deal. Never a problem otherwise when I can keep them in the garage fridge at home and the lake.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience with your outfitter bigeyedfish. I hope you have better luck next time.

Oh yeah, welcome to the board!

fitgers: Hang around Gene's some day and take notice when the boys bag up a scoop of minnows for a customer. Basically a plastic bag with water and bait, but most of the room in the bag is filled with O2 from a tank, then it's sealed shut with a rubber band. Once it's opened, you're on your own, but keeps 'em lively during the initial trip to the fishing hole. Heading to TGO and having them fill the bag while acting as a liner in our Leech King is the ticket.

Thanks. I was wondering if it was some kind of oxygen releaser or something that was put in with the leeches. lol Kind of like Alka Seltzer or something. So it isn't really a "thing". Just the sealed bag with air. Makes sense. I didn't know the sealed (with rubber band) minnow bag was called an oxy pack or bag. I do recall when I was younger some bait stores would shoot some air into those bags of minnows.
Thanks scheweady!
I was at the cabin on the 14th and early 15th and saw a guy walking around that canoe launch on the north end of big pine. I wondered if it was you.
