What is the latest dominant species in Nina Moose Lake...looks like we may be camping there our first night or two come June. I've always heard it was not worth fishing but I know there has to be something consistant in there. Thanks

It's old info. But, here's what the DNR says. Nina Moose

We just passed through there this past September. We didn't fish. Even if we had, the overpowering stench coming from the lake would've certainly enticed us to release anything we caught. Maybe we just hit a bad time for decaying plant life?????

Yes it is a shallow lake, seems likely the stench may be present in September. But in June I have not picked up on the stench.

Nina Moose is shallow and the campsites there are very well used, almost worn out.

I'd only camp there if I absolutely had to.

If at all possible... press on to Agnes.

+1-- reason why Agnes and points around are so crowded. NINA does have a few nice sites. OK pike fishing.

We had a nice dinner of perch there last May.

I have always caught nice walleyes in weeds heading out of the lake towards the parking lot. We have stayed on Nina Moose many times as the last camp site of the trip to be back at the entry point around 9 - 9:30. That way we are back to Ely, cleaned up, feed, and headed south by 1:30 or so.

If staying there, make sure that you have a Sawyer water filter because it will "take out" anything that Katadyn has to offer - or at least a Base Camp or Vario.

Last year this is the first lake that I had to back flush my home made Sawyer rig after 160 L of water through it.

Think this was on Camp site 1817 last May. If you enlarge the picture, you can see how red the water is.

If you camp on nina moose stay on the point probably the best site on the lake ....also if you stay on nina moose you should definately day trip to lamb there are some huge northerns in there bit of a hike but well worth it as there are no campsites on lamb and its out of the way ..most people take agnes around to ramshead ..

just my 2 cents

Walleye are in Nina Moose.
Try working for them, you may be surprised!

I spent a few days on Nina Moose this past August/September. I was surprised how many good sized Walleye were in the lake. The Pike were also in good numbers and of decent size. The water isn't the best in the area so plan accordingly for drinking water, but do not be dissapointed to have to camp on this lake. I would also recommend the peninsula campsite and fish the shoreline until you find a honey hole. I found two that produced fish all day long right from camp. If you can't get the peninsula, I recommend the east bay of nina moose as a secondary location to camp. I did not notice a bad smell when I was there, as was mentioned above. Enjoy your trip!

I spent a evening on Nina last really late September and its a good thing I wasn't planning to eat fish or drink the water, the fish didn't bite and the water was full of algae or some other upended stuff, plus there were beaver swimming all over the place leaving their nasty germs behind. I had the depth finder on and did mark a few fish but few and far between and those I did mark appeared smallish sized did a lot better on Agnes. Didn't notice any odor from the water certainly not fish smell. FRED
