With cabin fever building I've turned to refilling the fly box and wondered if any other here played with the dark art. At the moment I'm running low on mini clousers, and with the big spawning run coming up here in a few months I don't want to be caught short.

Those look great. Clousers are such awesome flies. I have a big ice fishing wekend coming up and was just wondering if I might be able to nail some 'eyes and perch on them. I was thinking that with a tight clinch knot they might ride sort of horizontal due to the weighted eyes.

I've been tying up lots of deceivers though, a fly type I use 60- 75% of the time. Probably 40 or so over the last 3 weeks. Also tied a few with the saddle feathers tied flat (Abrams Style), on top of the hook instead of along the sides. Nice profile created that way.

Winter is the big tying period for me. Need to do some more nymphs as well. I have a killer trout/steelhead pattern that I'm running low on. I think I just might post some pics in the next little while.

Just noticed its looking like you are using bead chain eyes. Might have to try that on a few clousers, nice slow fall as opposed to the lead eyes. I've use bead chain on bonefish/crazy charlie patterns, and DDH leeches but never on clousers. Definitely have to try that.

I've fallen love with the bead chain just for its slow fall. Works great on low currents, or add a shooting head or sink tip to move it down deep in faster current. As a side note its a whole lot easier to cast then big weighted one.

Another way to pass the winter besides tying is shopping. Some good deals here:
