My buddy, not a big fisherman, brings a pocket-size tackle box with a dozen or so extremely "vintage" lures every trip. He usually busts it out for a couple half-hearted efforts with whatever lure he randomly grabs. Two years ago he tried an ancient Lazy Ike that has been rattling around that box forever, probably hasn't seen the water in 30 yrs. First cast into Lac La Croix hooks a 30" pike. He lands it, stringers it, then puts away his fishing gear for the rest of the trip, satisfied.
I guess what I'm trying to say is the pike seem to like 'em. But then, what don't they like?

Been using a Lazy Ike for years with varying success. Always in a red & white color combination.

It has always made me laugh at all the differant lures out there, new ones on the shelf every time I go to Cabela"s. The old ones caught many fish then something new and improved comes along and boom, the old lures are now junk.
I do still have and use the Old lures but not as much as I should. The Lazy Ike is a proven Pike lure so I would say bring it.

One of the guys I trip with has been going up for 40 years or so. He told me the lazy ike was standard for many years. The guy on the shore side would troll an original rap and the guy on the deep side would troll a lazy ike.
For years in the 1950s it was the go-to lure on Mille Lacs as well. Up on Oak Island in the Northwest Angle, the old Bonnie Brae Resort (now Sportsman North) bar has 3 mounted fish. A high 25ish lb northern, a 13 lb walleye, and a five lb smallmouth. Don, the proprietor of the old resort, told me that they all came on the same green lazy ike.
I'm sure it would still work as long as you get it in front of the fish.

The lazy ike certainly had it's day in the sun. But it's been retired from my tackle box for some time. There are many better options now.

I been fishing with Lazy Ike's since Moby Dick was a Minnow!!!
I almost always have one in the box, because of Nastalgia.
You can still buy them.
I have trolled and caught Walleye, White Mouth Bass, Large Mouth Bass, Northern Pike on them.

PS I don't think the Big Old Fish told the little young fish, "Don't eat that Lazy Ike" It's and old trick :)

My biggest walleye was on a Lazy Ike, 9 Lbs 13 oz. (1968) in the Hackensack area. For that reason alone I always have one with. I did catch a walleye with one on Sawbill the last time I tried, I think I'll have to try it again in May.
