My gal and i are wanting to come up fishing and camping. We are looking at doing a 3 to 5 day trip. Catching fish is the number one thing on our minds with this. We dont really care which entry point we go from east or west. A nice campsite or sites would be great to. Also if anyone has any reccomendations on a outfitter to use. Not looking for a guide but just someplace to outfit us with the gear.
Thanks
Jacob

Gunflint side- Tuscarora Outfiiters or Windigo.

You could enter on Lizz thru Poplar Lake and proceed to Horseshoe. It will take roughly two hours to canoe and portage with easy portages. Horseshoe is a good walleye lake too.

Ely side- Not too sure on Outfitter

Lake One is a fun lake with no portaging at all, which makes it awfully easy. Plenty of walleyes if you can find structure, bring portable locater if you have one.

Ely side- go with Jordan's Canoe Outfitters and enter at Wood Lake. Its a nice lake with really good fishing either on Wood or go to Good Lake or Indiana Lake for some bass.

I've had a good experience with Williams and Hall (2x, recommended by a friend who has used them dozens of times) on Moose Lake in Ely. I'd say that all the outfitters are probably going to have great service since it's their livelihood, probably depends more on where you want to enter. Outfitters should have rental fishing gear for you too and give advice on where to fish / what to use.

Out of Ely, try VNO. John and Lynn are wonderful people, and know the BW perfect. Up the Gunflint, Tuscarora is dyno. Frankly, they are a big part of saving my life...literlly. I suggest a SPOT...woulda saved me a lot....

VNO is great plus the Ely side might give you more entry/route options.

My fav's

Ely side - I've only used Voyeguer North
Gunflint side - I've used Tuscarora, Gunflint and Seagul Outfitters.

The outfitter can probably give you lake recommendations as well.

I have had dealings with Vintage North a couple of times good honest people. Actually all of the outfitters in Ely are honest people, or they would not be in business as long as they have, and somebody on this site would have let us know. Only dealt with Sawbill outfitters once but they also treated me well and gave me some advice about bear problems on Alton lake which turned out to be good advice, only they didn't tell me how big the bear actually was, he took down a Duluth pack that was almost 12 feet off the ground, one of the 3 tallest bears I've ever seen. sawbill outfitters at the end of the sawbill trail are a very good. enter at kawishiwi lake and travel to kawashaschong lake.alot of it was burned but not some of the campsites. fishing in kawashaschong is good for walleyes.next travel to malberg lake and find a nice site. mallberg is a good fishing lake for everything but trout. you can daytrip from there to many other good fishing lakes. good luck.

Lot of good recommendations.
I noticed over the years working with many resorts or seeing outfitters,to stay in business you got to be a people person and I think there is a lot of those along the BWCA in the canoe business.
