I have heard that replacing treble hooks on crankbaits/spoons with single barbless hooks is much easier on the fish and the angler. For the angler, it's easy to release fish (especially pike) caught with a single hook versus a treble. Also, a single hook reduces the risk of injury/death to the fish. When they swallow deep or get foul hooked somewhere other than their lip, a trio of hooks can be a real pain. I'm not seeing much about this on the internet so just wondered if anyone has any experience with this ? Thanks

I replace all trebles with single hooks. Much easier to unhook fish, when I cast cranks they have less chance of wrapping around the line, especially in the wind. Might miss a few fish with single hooks, but not enough to make a difference to me.

i'll sometimes remove the front treble on smaller cranks when fishing wood.

Hey Walllee -- what size/kind of hooks do you use for replacements and what kind of tool is needed ? Glad to hear this works for you.

Various sizes of Gamakatsu hooks. All that is needed is a pair of split ring pliers. I do keep a supply of extra split rings that come in handy.

I just cut off two of the hooks from the treble, instead of removing it and replacing with a single.
