This question might not make sense but here goes: I have fished pretty close after ice out but only on rivers. How does ice out affect walleye on week 1, week 2, week 3? I am wondering if we should postpone our June 1 trip for a couple of weeks but I really don't want to do that if eyes are active in the weeks/days following ice out.

We are going around that time also. Fish in shallower lakes. If they are not biting in one, try another. In 1999 my buddy and I were fishing Lake X in LLC area during a massive cold front. No dice after two days of fishing. Lake Y on day 3 and 4 was hot, hot, hot. for same conditions however.

ok no walleye expert here but have done atleast a dozen openers in the BW, what i've noticed is once ice goes off in a few days maybe more they should move into the moving water area's if you see spawn/spawn pockets you might get some small males hanging around it can be shut down time. if those areas are clear of spawn there will come a point where the walleye fishing can be very good. but there is a window there that can be hard to figure out, but when the wally's turn back on you dont even have to be smart. and try area's that are kind of close to spawning area's. what you see above shore is a good indication of whats below. AND bottle neck bays can be a magnet in the early spring big pike also.

I remember 2008 Ice Out was only 1 week prior. Slayed the Walleyes that week I would not change fishing dates. Caught 3+, 10lbs. that year.
Good luck.

it might just be my term but i've seen spawn at the bottom of falls/moving water where it is large clumps between rocks, i've seen them as big as 4'X4' till the moving water dissipates the eggs into the current. i remember 1 trip with my brother we were up on a portage and i told my bro , you see that pile of white there , thats walleye spawn he didnt believe me i told him to hike down there and get a better look. he did , it something that average person doesnt see to often, and the bigger females move in and back out relatively fast or there going to be eagle bait, the little males seem to hang out longer. if ice is out i wouldnt change my date just roll with it.
