In late May (which this year will be equivalent to mid may other years) I'm thinking that I'll want to look for warmer water when targeting walleyes (and/or moving water, it may be a tough call). I've looked through some old threads and have gathered that I should look for mud-bottom bays and bays on the north side of the lake to find warm water. Will boulders be a good place to look as well, since they warm up from the sun? What about rock that is not boulders but a solid ledge, how does that compare? What else do I need to know for finding warm water/targeting walleye in the cold water part of the season? What about trolling cranks in this early part of the season? Thanks
Chunk rock(to boulder size) provides cover for prey. Look at your map. Look for the first shallow rock reefs near potential spawning areas, that's where they will go. In general, predators(and prey), will go from spawning areas to main lake. Look for ambush points along the way. Do map work now.

Look for anything with current. Either wind produced current or creeks, narrows, or rivers. Live bait helps. Don't be affraid to fish real shallow. Soft bottom bays with weeds or wild rice hold baitfish, which in turn attracts post spawn fish, especially if you have some wind blowing in there.
