Thanks Jan. Pre-planning and trying to beat the bugs, crowds, catch a few fish too. Went in after full moon last year and got hammered by rain and wind, bite shut down a bit last 3 days there etc. Even got out the Almanac this time just to compare. Wish me luck. Don't know what dates to pick, but like 5-20 or else 6-3. But these variables are what makes it a fun challenge! Thanks, oth

Minnesota opener is always the 1st Saturday in May, that falls on or before the 15th.
The 15th being the latest the season will open, the earliest would be the 9th.
Bass opens the same time in the north,(everyplace north of Hwy 2 and east of Hwy 169????) 2 or 3 weeks later in the southern part of the state.

TGO it looks like those leeches of yours took too much blood:),the walleye season is the second saturday of May, not the first. If you used cranks more often you might not of lost so much blood to the brain.-----sorry too easy couldn't resist. Your dates are correct though.

From the DNR website: "Minnesota's general fishing opener is always the Saturday two weeks before Memorial Day weekend (May 13 in 2000 and May 12 in 2001)"
They changed it a few years back to guarantee an extra weekend between Memorial day and the opener.

Thanks marsonite for clearing it up. TGO, after your explanation--I see what you are saying now. Your statement is not clear as you think--please read it again carefully(the first one you wrote not the second post), pause at the comma, and you will see it can be interpreted two different ways. If you take the comma out of your original statement it would be harder to misinterpret.

Marsonite is correct.
It translates to the 1st Saturday on or before the 15th.
timatkn,
It reads the same in either post, as the date of the 15th isolates the Saturday whether or not the comma is/is not present.
This was a cloudy issue several years back, so I called the DNR for clarification.(In fact, I think the DNR had the wrong opening date in their regulation book one of those years)
The explanation I gave earlier was exactly the same as I received over the phone.
No dessert for you, go to your room! :)

Ya know TGO some sentences can have two different meanings depending on where you puctuate/pause or even just how it is read by the reader, an open minded person can recognize that, a close minded person can only see it one way.
Punctuation does matter and changes the emphasis/connection of the sentence. Because you know what you meant when you wrote your sentence you are unable or unwilling to see any other interpretations.
I can see how I misinterpreted your post, I was mistaken, where does that leave you?

Hey, hey, hey local paddler,
Lighten up Bro, just two guys discussing points of view!
Quote from you: "Fishing opener is around the second weekend in May every year. Done."
I don't like to stir the pot, (yeah, right!) but fishing can open on the third Saturday in May if it falls on the 15th.
I wouldn't even have mentioned that, but didn't want to see you get arrested for fishing before season! :)
