Have never been to the BW in August (entering on the 16) am wondering what type of lakes hold good walleye that time of the year. What type of structure should we look for Waldo on?
Would like to paddle hard for a day and base camp on a lake for a day or two. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to PM.

Do you have an permit reserved already? If so where are you going?
I went in the same time last year to Ensign. We had pretty good success with walleyes in shallow at night and along drop offs during the day.

There are only 26 EPs left with availability on the 16th. Sorry I can't be much help here because the only one of those I have used is Snowbank.
The permit available for Snowbank only allows camping on Snowbank itself. This isn't much of a problem as long as it isn't really windy. You can have good walleye fishing with day trips. Disappointment is quick and easy to get to. You can also day trip up through Boot, and into Ensign. Both of those options should put walleyes in the canoe.
Hopefully someone else with more experience than I will chime in and help out with some of the other options.

Some locals and outfitter type of people told me that they thought Iron fishes better in late summer than early spring. The lake has alot of structure out in the midlake basin. Aug usually has stable weather patterns, so once you find a reef that holds fish, keep hitting it at the same time everday. Plus, Curtain falls does a great job of keep the water well oxygenated.
We caught hundreds of nice smallies below the falls of curtain. Then about 6:00pm we would head toward some reefs out in the midlake and bounce leeches and drill the walleye until dark.
Find a reef and fish the windswept side if there is wind at all.
