We are planning a trip to Insula and Thomas Lake next May. Was looking at lake finder for the lakes in the area. Kiana is between the 2 seems to have nice depths and structure. The 1964 survey says the lake has Northerns and Rock Bass. I would think there would be walleyes in it. Has any one ever fished there? If you have fished Kiana did you catch anything?

Large Pike. No eyes from my experience.

People talk about it being solid for pike. I paddled through there a couple years ago on a day trip, but the sun was setting and we were trying to get back to camp so we didn't get to fish it. It's a pretty little lake though.

Only portage that gave me the heebie jeebies was the Insula to Kiana Portage. It's a very scenic lake. I remember some decent drop offs paddling through, didn't fish it.

I have fished it for pike and that is all, there are some awesome pike in that lake... Water has good clarity as well, I was pulling a spoon back to the canoe and looked behind it and there was a huge pike close to 40 inches following it! I jerked it away from him, did not want him hitting it that close to the canoe! Been a couple of years since I have been there but it had a lot of good cover along the banks.

You didnt want a 40 inch pike to hit your lure?

Thats how I caught my largest pike, 40.5" I was shore fishing and it followed all the way in, a few feet from shore I just stopped reeling and it flutter and he smacked it. Ran out a ton of like and then fought for 20 minutes. Was a great fight and fish!

We would have no problem catching 40" pike.
It just figured since it looks like there might be a trickle of water flowing into it from Thomas and out of Kiana into Insula that a few walleyes might wander into it. Sounds like we will need some Northern lures on when I go there.
