Hi there, my husband and I are planning our third trip to the Ely area in June, and We've never had great luck fishing. I want to set up a fishing guide as a Christmas present for my husband. Any recommendations on who? And should I splurge for a full day, or is a half day appropriate? Lastly, would you recommend getting a Basswood Lake permit, or should I set up something up closer to Ely? We're staying on Fenske Lake on the Echo Trail. Thanks in advance!

Your idea of hiring a guide is a good one. I would suggest LaTourell's on Moose Lake, with a day trip to Basswood. Basswood is an awesome fishery. You might even want to book a night at their place to get an early start.

I agree with old salt. La Tourell's has some cool options for trips that any husband would love. Check out their website and hunt around a bit.

Basswood is a great choice. The lake has both quantity and quality.
