What lake has the better fishing and campsites? We normally fish for Walleye, don't keep any, but love catching them. We have fished Fourtown, Horse and surrounding lakes, but have never been up to the Fairy/Gun area.

Is there any inlets/outlets in that area where we could find some current?

Both lakes offer good waldo fishing. I suggest camping on the site closest to the Gull portage. Fish the narrows dividing the grip from the barrel. Also, go fish on Gull. Tight lines.

Had good luck on Gun in '08. Camped on Fourtown - never even wetted a line on Fairy. I posted a fishing note on Gun (west side of the lake). We had a mix of smallies and wallys on Gun. Easy portages if you are camping in that general area, so you'll have options.

I went in through Mudro two summers ago in 2012 and stayed a night on Fourtown, one on Gun, and two on Beartrap. We went in August so the fishing was a little slower. Caught my biggest walleye (25") on Thunder but not much else, we did okay on Gun for bass and walleyes but nothing crazy. We wanted to but were never able to fish on Fairy at all. Beartrap was our best fishing lake on that trip though. Decent amount of walleyes and a few bass.

The first campsite on Gull is nice. Gull had lots of walleye. For us, Gun was much better for smallies and had more traffic. We had Gull to ourselves.

I think between the two gun has a little better fishing, although fairy can be good. Caught a 21 inch smalley in fairy a couple of years ago.

I'll let you know after June 14th! I have my eye on the choke points on the barrel, and at the bottom of the handle of Gun.

Actually, I'll let you know, we're headed up late May.

Went through this area last year but really only fished on Boot. Pretty good luck there, caught my largest walleye ever at 27.5". Fairy is a really cool little lake and we checked out the eastern campsite and it was very nice. If I go back to this area I am going to make a point of staying there. Something about the lake is enchanting...hence the name I guess. Supposed to have ok fishing too. We stayed on Gun two nights but our site had a shallow bay around it so shore fishing opportunities were limited. One interesting thing was that after coming through Fourtown, Boot and Fairy, as soon as we got to Gun we noticed an amazing difference in the water clarity. Previous lakes were stained but Gun was crystal clear. Daytripped through Gull, Thunder and Moosecamp but didn't fish but I would sure like to try all of them too. Gull has a good reputation and we stopped at one campsite on a peninsula with deep water off all 3 sides...my mouth was watering. Gun may be fine...I would give Fairy a try cause it was so cool.
