Rapala's don't seem to get the same amount of water time
as my other lures because I'm afraid to lose them!

It feels like after a while your tackle box goes from being a fishing "tool box" to a collection of memories

That is so true! I have a few rapala original husky's hanging up in my fishing room - not husky jerks but the old husky's. I loved those lures and was really disappointed when they discontinued them. Now I wish I could use them but don't want a pike or snag to take em away. I also have some original Bagley's (with those awesome color patterns) from the 70's that I also wouldn't use.

Thats why when I find a pattern that catches fish, I but about 10 more to have. Then I don't feel so bad when I loose one. Last summer I had a 44" Musky hit on the only lure that I was catching Pike on. I was so afraid I was going to loose it to the Musky, but I got it back when I boated the fish. It still had the 3 pound Pike in its mouth and would not let go of it.

I caught a 15 lb pike like that some 20 odd years ago. It hit a 3lb pike I hooked on a shad rap. It jumped 2-3 times, was never hooked itself, but would not let go of the smaller pike until I had it in the net. I imagined it must have been thinking 'this is a feisty little morsel'!

I hear ya. I try to not let myself buy a lure that I can't stand to lose in 1-5 outings.

As we always say, " If you're not catching snags, you're not catching fish."

I have a few lures that I will NOT use on a lake that even has a remote chance of having a Pike in it.

I see we share a common enemy. So, the enemy of my friend is the double enemy of me.

I have a few lures from my fathers tackle box, and a couple from my grandfather that may never see water again. It is very tempting but I have specific memories attached to each, so want to have something physical as well.

I know what you mean. I have my Dad's Bassorino and Heddon lucky13 that is going with next trip. I will be using a steel leader when they are on.

The reference to Bassorino got my interest. Does it look at all like this? This has Fish-oreno on the metal lip. This lure was my dad's and will never see water again.
