mid june trip taking my 12 yr old girl and a couple 15 yr old boys on an easy base camp to fish mainly. this is there first trip in. I have lived in tents and on the water quite a bit but only once in bwca and am a poor fisherman. planning to stay at alder for three to for days and make a day trip or two. any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

Alder is a good lake for eyes and bass, there are even a few lakers in there. A day trip into crystal is a good idea too and where the river comes into canoe from alder can be killer bobber fishing in the evening.

Too easy is a good thing. You'd rather have them wanting more than wishing it was over. Bring lots of food.:)

I like that advice.

With those kids, make sure to paddle over to Canoe lake, leave the canoes at the portage and hike the trail to Johnson Falls. It is worth it.

If by chance you're not having much luck on Alder you could try a day trip to Crocodile for walleye. The portage would be a little challenging but, on a dry day a worthy trip.
