I'm going to be northwest of Quetico the first two weeks of June. I prefer bass, but am open to walleye and big pike. Any guesses as to where those fishies will be and what they'll be doing those two weeks given this long, cold winter?

I think you will find fish scattered in prespawn patterns. So some fish up shallow with the others waiting to make the transition, so look for them on drop offs next to the shallow spawning areas. Its always a odd time for Bass when we have had a long hard winter. That being said things could time out right and you will tear into the fish. You will find walleye and Pike the deeper areas off the spawning sites I would guess. 13-16 feet of water, wouldnt go much deeper then that.

Normal ice-out in the bw-quetico is usually about last week of April to May 1-2-3. Looks like it will be 2-3rd week of May, just plan on things being about 1.5 to 2 weeks behind "normal". Don't forget suspending cranks for SMB!! Rogue's Rule!! Look for shallow ledges with DEEP water NEARBY

I can go at anytime. I'm wanting lots of bass, so when would you go this year?

Molly, I was wondering why you were going so early if targeting bass. While I have seen good action the first two weeks of June, better more consistent fishing would be certainly last two weeks of June, or even last week of June and first week of July. In June they can still be on their beds and can be aggressive then. But if they are finished spawning, they can be a bit lethargic for a few days so you don't want to be there during that period. Right after, and bang bang bang, they will be hitting consistently. Later in the year also gives some respite from the worst of the black flies and mossies. Now if you also wanted to target walleyes, then yes, maybe the first two weeks of June might be a tad better overall.

Moonman.

June 5-20. That said, my spring trip north of the White Otter area is already set: May 30-June 4. I will be a little early for really good Bass fishing, but expect the other 3 species to be good to excellent.
