Heading up to the BWCA for the first time June 28th and will be on the Lake One, Two, Three, and Four and was wondering how the fishing typically is on these lakes? Leaches, minnows, or crawlers?

I've had good luck on 3,4 and Horseshoe. Fish structure (rock out-croppings, underwater reefs and small islands) and drop offs. Also anywhere there is a choke point between bodies of water, like channels where lakes join and there is current. Troll with husky jerks and other Rapala's, and definitely don't forget leeches on a bare hook with a slip bobber, deadly.

Good Luck!

Had good luck trolling regular and shallow shad raps on the way in and out through the numbered lakes. I would also recommend getting some plastic swimbaits. Last year they were deadly casting to weedy shorelines. 4 in. ripple shad in particular worked good for us on lake 4. Picked up a 18 in. and a 20 in. largemouth in that area on the ripple shads. Some nice pike and smallies too.

fished this area all the way to Insula in August 2 years ago and did pretty well for walleyes and bass. It will be a little different fishing in late June but we fished with a jig and a leech, and trolling lindy rigs and jig spinners. rapalas at night in areas of current or shallow water near drop offs. we only fished lake 3 and Insula extensively.

I'll be heading up to the Number Lakes next week. Has anyone been fishing up there very recently? I'll be targeting walleye. Has anyone had success at any specific depths? Planning on mainly using Jigs and Rigs with leeches.

Biggest Walleye I ever caught was in Lake 3. It was 10pm, and it was 32" long.

I LOVE hearing stuff like that! I know that the chances of that happening to me are against me, but hearing that type of stuff gets me excited!

Would you mind telling us what you caught it on? =)

best fishing trip I ever had was one that we went trough the numbered lakes into Hudson. It was early June. We caught SM and Walleye until my hands were raw from taking them off! The vast majority of the fish were caught on Hudson, bigger fish for sure.
