On the map page, I heard that Kivaniva lake northeast of Malberg has quite a few walleyes in it. I am making a trip to the area in Early July and was interested in checking it out. Has anyone fished it? Any advice?

I've heard/read the same. Never been though.

I explored it a little in 2002. I think I remember there is a reef in the middle of it off the campsite. I think in the evening that would produce that time of year. Or work the shallow edges along the deep drop offs or leading into the very shallow western end. I really did not fish it--heard it was good.

It should be good/productive for a small lake. It has shallow water with weeds, deep water, and flowage for oxygen.

My brother and I tripped up there a couple years ago in early June and caught a walleye and northern just paddling through. We had also heard it was good but didn't get to fish it extensively because we went in to Pan Lake. Would like to sometime though. Pretty area and nice and secluded.

Was there in 1996 and only caught northerns... decent ones, but that's all.

Back in the 80's we caught some huge walleyes in there! Who knows, might still be a big one or two in there. Nice structure for bobber fishing!

I have been in Kivaniva.....nothing to see there...just keep on going.

In all seriousness Kivaniva does hold walleye and some nice ones at that. It is NOT the best walleye lake in that area but that general area does have some real nice walleye lakes.

I just figured I would give it a try as I like to be on secluded lakes. Where would you suggest the best walleye lake in the area is then?

The best in that area is not a lake...

So the Kawishiwi river then?

Would jig heads and leeches be the best option for July, focusing on changes in depth and rapids, or what strategy should I focus on?
