If you are going in up the sawbill trail or gunflint trail where would you buy your leeches?

I had the same question. Maybe there will be a place on the Gunflint in May.

Most of the outfitters have them.

Al's Bait and Tackle in Two Harbors always.

Depends on season and amount. Most of the outfitters have them but from what I've read, if you want a large amount you may want to buy them before you hit the Gunflint, or if you go later in the summer.

phisherman,

Mike's Holiday, Bucks Hardware, or the Beaverhouse are all in Grand Marais & should have them.

Mid to late August is a tougher time to find leeches at some shops.

TGO-We will be in the BW for the first time the 1st week of Aug. Will you have plenty of leeches at that time? Also, how many #'s would you recommend for 2 fishermen for a week. We plan to use leeches almost entirely. Any other suggestions would be appreciated, too.

Thanks

We usually get our bait from the Holiday in Tofte when we are in that area.

mipe4,

What lakes are you planning to travel to??

Leeches the 1st week of August should not be a problem, figure 2 dozen per person per day if fishing heavily.

Plain hooks, #4's and # 6's tied directly to 6 or 8 pound test line, tipped with a leech & slowly trolled or cast toward shore lines.

Also, floating jig heads tipped with a leech and used with a slip bobber is a can't miss rig.

Call my shop on Sunday mornings and I can describe these methods to you, and give you other options. 218-365-4744
