I've been lurking on these forums for a few months and finally decided to create an account.
I'm going up to the BWCA for the first time next weekend (Thurs-Sun) with a group of friends. We are going through Sawbill Outfitters and most likely will be heading to Cherokee as my friend who booked the trip really wants a lake with an island campsite.
My concern is fishing. After searching through the forums it seems as though Cherokee is more of a sight seeing lake and less of a fishing lake. I would like to hook a laker or two as the only lake trout I have ever caught was on lake superior. Is it worth my time to fish Cherokee or should I plan on day trips to other lakes? It sounds like we will just be base camping and not moving around much.
Like I said, I'm new to the BWCA so I'm not sure how many portages or lakes are reasonable for a day trip.
Secondly, is it worth my time to fish lake trout or should I search for more of a walleye/small mouth lake?
Ps. This is a great community on this site, I'm glad I finally decided to make an account.
