Just curious if anyone has fished Pike Lake just north/northeast of Caribou Lake south of the BWCA in the Pat Bayle SF within the Superior National Forest. I'm headed up to the area Sept 19th to do a little hunting and fishing and have never fished this lake before. I realize this is a BWCA forum, but thought it would be ok to post about surrounding areas. let me know if this is not appreciated.

Any Information would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

I rented a lake home with my family in Mid July on Pike on the far NW end. It was a family vacation with the typical "run in's" to GM for the ladies to go shopping etc and Alpine Slide/tram ride at Lutsen Mtn and severe cold front moved through --- but I caught plenty of bass to be happy with when I did get out. Eyes were very tough. Locals were fishing the W end where it 10-15 fow where it long sloping drop off occurs before 20+'. In further their is a subtle trough that runs very close to the N shoreline just around a point. That held some eater eyes.
Leeches at night on slips.
In the fall I would concentrate on the first steep break in 10-20 fow (plenty of that on this lake) and narrower it down with wind blown shorelines. Very clear water so nighttime or rain/clouds may be your best bet for eyes.

Also if you are going to use the public access on the S shoreline I would highly reccm coming in from the EAST to get their. Coming from the W via the Carioubu Trail is fine until the last 1.5 miles where the road? basically turns to a bumpy/rutty snowmobile trail. 20 minutes to go 1.5miles without the boat on trailer....

Heed this advice. Isn’t the bicycle trail sign still up?

It may have been but we never saw it. The road was heavily crowded in vegetation on both sides so it was difficult to see much of anything.

This a quote from the cabin owner after we traded emails after our stay at his cabin--

"Yes, that ride on the south side of Pike Lake to the public boat landing is character building. Hard to believe, but that road was considerably improved after the boat landing was built 4 or so years ago. I bent the frame of my SUV on it back in 1998."

I think I mentioned my misguided short cut on a thread you started on Pike Lake. I took that "road" sometime between the summer of 1997 and 1999. There was a gravel pile where you could tell the so called improvements stopped. Shortly after that the brush was scraping both sides of my Dodge Aries and I happened to see a bicycle route sign. I got a little nervous but pushed on. There weren’t really any ruts when I was on it probably because the only vehicles that maybe used it were ATVs. There were boulders I had to dodge though.
