Had some our best fishing there. Didn't catch tons of fish but they all were nice sized.

Depends on time of year but one thing that lake is known for is big walleyes after dark, and also when theres a light rain. Spring is a shoreline bite out to the first break, the summer is a reef and any structure thats near the basin, they really transition out deeper once the water gets warm and its a leech and bobber and rapala bite. Even though theyre hangin out in deep water in summer they really will come in shallow super early and anytime after dark.

myself i would concentrate/camp on alpine over red rock. and 2nd week in june. base camping on alpine gives a person a few options.

I would agree with you for overall angling,Alpine is a much better lake, but if were just talking big eyes then Red Rock has it over Alpine.

Grandpa and I had planned a Red Rock base camp last year, but at the outfitters we ran into a party who had base camped there, and all they got was bass. Last week of June 2014.

What went wrong? Were they not coming out straight? Were they not fishing with the right lures?

Just for the record, we ended up base camping on Englishman Island of Saganaga and fished Devil's Walk Bay. Good bass fishing but no walleye either - but I think that was our fault. :) Didn't use the right lures.

My two biggest northerns came from Red Rock. One with Mepps spinner and one with Cisco fished on the bottom. Some nice smallmouth and a few walleyes also caught on Red Rock.

Were you casting or trolling the Mepps spinner? What time of year? Beautiful fish!

Or Back Bay. I've caught some huge northerns in Back Bay. It's the perfect territory for them - relatively shallow, weedy, lot's of panfish.

In Jackfish, I've caught some big ones at the south end of the bay, where a creek pours into the bay.

Casting spinner close to the small islands in mid-lake. No leader, 6# line, should have never gotten him into boat. Caught both of big pikes different years in August.
