I am going fishing this weekend in a non-mapped lake that is about 50 feet deep. There seemingly is zero bottom structure as it used to be a gravel pit. the lake is a triangle shape and I am guessing that the shore line is nearly vertical down to the 50 foot mark.

Where would you start searching for them (I don't have sonar) near the edges and work your way to the middle? Or would you keep working your way around the perimeter hoping to run into a passing school?

Honestly I would just start Drilling Holes. Lots of them. Then Drill some more. Then Hole Hop till you start getting Bites. With no structure they could be anywhere. Thats my favorite kind of fishing though. To bad you dont have a Vexilar. It would make it so much easier to tell if they are not biting or just not there.

Perch are roamers of the flats. 5'- 15' flats with little structure is where I find them. When you get close to structure like breaklines, points etc. you will catch more Walleyes, Pike etc and I believe that is why large Perch schools often stay far away from these areas. Consider areas on your map where the contour lines are far apart and start drilling. Sand flats with scattered chara, coontail or sand grass are my best Perch areas. I hope this helps.
