Does anyone bring something in to clean fish on or do you clean them on rocks like us, just curious to see if anyone has a lightweight easy to haul in solution.

I use the spare paddle. Nice flat surface, and no rocks or moss in the fillets!

Paddle blade also. Silly to bring anything extra. Slime and scales are washed off when we paddle out to dispose of the entrails.

Paddle blade works great.

Granite Gear underseat storage has a removable cutting board. I use that. Works great. Prior to that, I used a paddle, but this works better.

Upside down kevlar canoe works but this year I'm bringing one of those thin flexible cutting board mats. Takes up zero space.

I am also bringing a plastic sheet cutting board. It takes up no space.

Last year, we cleaned the fish in camp. I don't know if that was very smart. This summer, we'll clean the fish on an island or shoreline a ways from camp.

There is a whole 'nother thread about what to do with entrails after cleaning the fish:
Fish guts thread

I vote for dropping the remains in deep water but my vote carries no weight with the forest service...

I just use a rock...but thanks to everyone above, I will now be using a paddle. Why didn't I think of this earlier?

I use a paddle as well, but this year i got a new plate, that supposedly is also good for a cutting board. We shall see. But, it does nestle nicely into my kitchen pots.

We use boards similar to this around the house:
Cutting boards

They are very light and easy to clean.

I like using a rock when I'm cutting out the fillets. Those slimy buggers always seem to slip off of my paddle blade too easily. They stick on a rock really well.

Once I have the fillets off of the carcass, then I skin them on the paddle blade. It's important to remember not to use a rock in camp, or you'll find many forest animals taking an interest in your handy work.

Canoe bottom or paddle here. Izzy

612er-If you leave the fillet attached by just a little skin, the carcass makes a handle you can pull whilst carving the fillets off. Then you only have one thing to dispose of, rather than a carcass and 2 skin flaps

I just use a cutting board on top of the counter top that is right next to the kitchen sink. Hmm...maybe that is why we have to quadruple portage.

You guys actually clean your fish. Nasty hobbitses.
