I am heading up to Crooked lake in the middle of June. I know from net surveys that there are crappies in the lake but I am just wondering if anyone has ever gotten into a good bite up there.

I caught a few crappies and bluegills on the Canadian side of Crooked. If we're talking about the same Crooked.

We are talking about the same Crooked, I need to stay on the American side though. Thanks for your input!

I have caught some nice size Crappies in Peterson Bay in Iron Lake. If they are in Iron Lake then there should be some in Crooked Lake.

We were using slip bobbers with leaches and were fishing off the main lake just into the pads and weeds in Peterson.

Mid-June shouldn't be to terribly hard to get on Crappies in a dark water lake like Crooked (probably not deep yet).

I like UP boys slip bobber set up for this work. I would target timber first and switch to weds if they aren't in the timber. If it's the least bit warm think early, early, early. The leeches are a good bet but a small bushy jig will take plenty of them. Any color is good as long as it's pink. Seriously though a pink head/ white body is tough to beat.

In the weeds don't be surprised to take more walleye than crappie. For that reason I would be hesitant to fish ultra light. Something to consider. Maybe a 6lb co-polymer like gamma might be ideal.

They are in there. I have caught them vertical jigging for walleye, but it has never been consistent. I ran into a group once that said the Canadian side is where they are.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I have a couple of spots on the American side that look like they could hold some fish for me if I get up there at the right time. Hopefully I will have some pictures to post after my first trip!
