Ask us.
I'll predict my answer: "That depends."

My first question is; how do you tie a 60 pound test flouro leader to 6 or 8 lb. mono? This would be instead of a steel leader. Rick

That leader will be crazy big for that main line if conventional wisdom is your guide.. I was fishing in the gulf of mexico recently (throat clearing sound) and we were using 65 pound braid mainline and 30 pound flouro leaders. You'll want (generally)to match up the diameters. Back-to-back uni knot is the simplest.

Blood knot wins for me.

Right. 60# flouro has a diameter of about .03".

I was at the Palmetto Sportsman Classic outdoor show last weekend here in Columbia SC. A guy selling lures tells me to forget using Steel/ titanium leaders and switch to 60 lb. flouro leader. I asked him if he was serious. He says " that's what we do in Fla". Go figure. Rick

I used blood knots for years when tying mono to mono. When I swicthed to braid with a flouro leader, I found the blood knot would slip and come apart. This was due to the very slick dyneema braid. I have been using an albright knot ever since.

Strange, I always use braid for my main line and fluoro leader and have never had an issue.

Strange indeed ODA. So I looked up the blood knot and found I was using a modified version I learned for tying reducing diameter leaders for fly fishing. It always worked for mono, but not braid. I will try the version depicted Here .

That's the version that I have had success with. Pulled up my biggest walleye to date with it this winter, so I can say it stood the test ;)

Much has been written and tossed about in the way of braid and mono or floro leaders. I fish quite a bit of salt water and use lots of braid and floro in combination. It can be quite a bit trickier than many would have you believe........but when its right its money.

For back country fishing for snook and reds I will use 30lb test power pro to 30 or 40lb floro leaders. I am a firm believer in doubling the braid and using it as I would a single line. For this connection I use a back to back UNI knot and use 6 wraps. Since the braid is doubled it is actually 12 wraps on the braid side. DO NOT snug these knots down quickly or heat will develop and damage the Floro. A slow steady pull until fairly tight, then relax and then continue pulling until very tight. Trim all the tag ends and pull again. You must wear gloves for this work and you should wrap the lines around your wrist to enable you to pull tightly enough to actually seat the knot as well as test it. it is common to break off 2 or 3 times before you have a good one.

I also use heavier Floro/mono offshore. I like an "improved slim beauty" knot (Utube) or this knot which is also good
braid to mono

But I need to ask........whats up with such light line to 60lb test? If your intention is to use the 60 for a pike leader I would advise against it. They will nip 60 fairly easily (unless your ice fishing). 80 is much better and 100 is tops. I use such leaders but I will be using them in conjunction with 100 lb braid and very large lures in the 8" and 10" class. For ordinary spinning gear you are much better off with a thin wire trace of say 25lb and some excellent terminal tackle to tie it to. If you read BWJ this issue one of the authors advocates KNOT2KINKY tieable wire. I have tripped with this fellow and he knows his stuff. Look into this option instead of the 60 IMHO.

I tie floor carbon leaders all at the time. The easiest way is to go to Bass Pro and buy 100 metal crimping barrels. You get these for 80 lb leader material. Pass your line through one side of the barrel, insert your snap swivel, pass the line through the other barrel, then crimp. Cut excess line. Then repeat the process for the barrel swivel on the other end. This technique works well and does not require knots.

Drrick, In all seriousness, I thought the question was a joke! No offense meant to you with my LOL post. I've never heard of that kind of set up and thought it was funny. I'm pretty much a trout guy.
