From the other 39 hour thread...I think this would be a blast to do in the BW! Probably have to extend it a bit longer but it would still be cool to do.

Considering the species available in the BW...what area or big lake would you start on or base camp on?

I would start on Basswood for Sure for multiple species.

Lets do this fishing opener weekend? In that case my plans are already set with snowbank. Does silver pike get its own catagory?

In need to research burbot fishing...

I don't think you could check in every 8 hours. I guess in a 6 person group you could meet up each 8 hours if you are on a lake like basswood.

The focus would have to be targeting species in the BWCA, other than the Grand Slam (Northern, SMB, Walleye, Laker), that can grow greater than 12". I'm sure I'm missing a few, but that leaves LMB, perch, sturgeon, muskie, crappie, burbot, cisco, splake, brook trout, rainbow trout, shorthead redhorse, silver redhorse, and white sucker. But how many of these readily grow that size in the BWCA? And how many of these are attempting to find a needle in a haystacK? That has to eliminate a good number of those species.

In any event, the planning would take a substantial amount of time...and I'd be glad to do it! As if Friday afternoon isn't long enough, now I'm day dreaming about fishing from a canoe!

How far would you have to go from Basswood to hit Lakers...or are there Lakers in Basswood? I always go east instead of west when going up the Moose chain. That being said...my first thought was Knife Lake. Eyes, Lakers, Pike, Suckers, & SM there and LM, Perch, & BT, within a day's paddle. Not sure how far a guy would have to go to hit crappies from there and I don't think my BG spot would kick out a 12"er. :) I wouldn't chase Musky, Sturgeon, Cisco, or Burbot but would welcome them if caught by accident.

Love the start of episode #2 when they are chasing suckers. That's how giddy I get when I pull up to a portage and see the suckers jammed in a 3' wide creek. :)

For a similar contest like 39 hrs in the BWCA I'd do LLC all the way, maybe portage into a few nearby lakes. Huge diversity in there and BIG fish of many species.

Longnose Sucker and Whitefish in the BWCA too, Longnose would be tough to find unless you bumped into them spawning. Burbot are pretty targetable in some of the Lake Trout lakes, at least off the Gunflint they are. We've had good nights of Burbot fishing in June up there. I've been wanting to catch a LLC Sturgeon for a while, not sure if I'll ever get around to actually trying it though.

Though to be honest, I mostly just fish for Lakers in the BWCA since most the other species are pretty accessible much closer to home.

I do a species contest every year for the month of June, it is a good time. Format is a little different but similar idea. The format in 39hrs does make a better TV show IMO.

This walleye with a burbot in its mouth that we got a few years ago would be a twofer.
