Has anyone out there had any success catching SMB on Disappointment Lake? If not there, how about Jordon or Ima a few miles Northeast. Any help will be appreciated.

It was 10 years ago when we were there but Disappointment was just as the name says. We did spend our last day on Parent and caught a pile of bass around the points on the east shore.

We were there last summer---later around Labor Day which is typically harder fishing for me and I thought the SMB fishing was good. There are some largemouth on the lake as well.

My son did well, throwing white wacky worms off of points in the early evening.

Disappointment has been a weird lake for me, it seems to be boom or bust. Maybe has a really good forage base? I don't know, but hasn't been a sure thing for sure.

About 10 years ago on Parent I hooked a floating rapala which had a smallmouth bass attached to it.

Make the trip to Ashigan for smallmouth. Fish the reef.

Only lake where another guy and I caught over 100 smallmouth and largemouth in a day all on artificial. Caught a huge 4 pound smallie that spawned out and skinny, otherwise would have been a chunk!

Last fall was tough fishing in a lot of spots. Some were having luck for walleye near that 5 star island south in the southern part of the lake. I didn't find SMB until I came back out the northeast end of Snowbank.

Did you find smb in the bay that has the boot lake portage? It looked very nice but we didnt fish it on our way through.

We found them off the points from the northern 2 islands. I think they were sitting out in deep water and inactive in the day. Then the evening they were coming up to feed.

We caught a ton along the shore but they were dinks, the bigger ones were off the breaks near the islands.

We didn't hit it hard, my kids were 5 and 8. The 8 year old could stay out all night if the fish are biting, but the 5 year old was more interested in marshmellows :)

I was on Disappointment Lake last June for my first trip ever to the BWCA. We were going to travel to different lakes but ended up basecamping since the fishing was decent the whole time we were there.

Although we didn't focus on smallmouth much during the week we did catch plenty. In fact I caught three from shore as soon as we got there while waiting for everyone else to get ready to go out fishing. One day we went back to a walleye spot we killed them at the day before and the smallmouth had moved in. We were catching 2-3 pounders with larger fish chasing them to the canoe. My partner I tripped with caught one that was every bit of 18" and probably closer to 19". They were hitting leaches that day but I caught several on Quetico Mike's Zulu softbait setup.

I would feel confident in saying if you strictly focused on smallmouth while fishing Disappointment you could potentially have great fishing if conditions were ideal. Early in the year would be the bet for me as they would still be shallow and easier to locate.

Been on Disappointment quite a few times and have caught decent bass only once. As far as fishing I've had some of my best fishing and some of my worst fishing there. It definitely isn't a sure thing for me.

As Toddhunter says Ashigan has always been good to us for bass, even in tough fishing conditions. But it's been hard to fish because for some reason it's always windy on that lake

Jordon and Ima are not known as hotspots for SMB. Northerns, walleyes and trout are the speciae more associated with those lakes.
