I have a permit for Sarah Lake in Quetico for late July. Anyone have any experience with Sarah, or can you recommend better lakes in the general area?

I camped on Sarah in July, 1999, it is my favorite lake so far. We camped at the site on the point (or narrows), between the two sections of the lake; about 2/3 of the way up. Really neat site with lots of space, good swimming area, relatively easy landing.

We saw a bull moose up to his chest in water, eating weeds, in the bay just south west of the site. We trolled deep through the main lake for lake trout, and hit the back bays for pike. Smallies were any lure, any direction, just cast and retrieve. All day. I didn't know what walleye were back then, but hooked one while trolling.

Ha! Pine tree is is quite a tactful fellow. Notice how he suggests all the lakes surrounding Sarah?

Sarah has a reputation as one tough nut to crack. Super clear makes for tough fishing for the average bear. But the fish are there.......beautiful lake.......Catching them is another matter entirely however particularly without the help of live bait.

I was up there in 2013, the narrows camp site was superb. I killed smallies fishing right from shore around camp. We also trolled for lake trout and did well with deep diving rapalas. Blue colored I believe. We also did well on McIntyre and Brent.

A nice smallie I got right off camp

I fished Sarah a few years back in early August and we caught a ton of lake trout just long lining cranks behind the canoe. Was a great fishing lake.

I was there in 1988 and caught one of my biggest smallmouths ever. I didn't measure it but it was shaped like a football and probably over 20".

Also, if you're up for a little adventure, up the north arm on the east side is a small no name lake. Find the stream coming from it and bushwhack in. It's loaded with largemouth bass. Keep in mind this was a long time ago.
