My wife and I are heading up the Gunflint in a couple of weeks to stay on Poplar Lake. Looking for some advice on walleye lakes for day tripping, I'm certainly not opposed to driving.
We're planning on fishing Caribou for sure and will likely fish Flour Lake as it's the first lake we fished together. If you'd be willing to recommend some other lakes along the Trail that hold good walleye populations, I'm happy to take your comments off air!

quote bassass93: "Got you covered. Go to Swamp lake. Its just one portage off Poplar."Strong +1 If your looking for eaters its hard not to catch walleyes on that lake. if your bringing a boat make sure you hit Hungry Jack lake also.

quote fadersup: "Thanks to you both for the tip, I was hoping to hear that Swamp was good!Yes theres a small parking area near an unimproved access on the wwest side of the lake near the road. I noticed some one put some big rocks there so boats cant launch :-) p.s. Like wallee said Crocodile is a very good option also.
Basspro I'll be hauling the canoe and haven't fished Hungry Jack...is there more than one place to park/launch on that lake?

you can also park at the lot that is also a portage between west bearskin and hungry jack lakes.
that place with the rocks is private property. the land owner blocks it in the summer but allows the snowmobile club an easement in the winter so sleds can get on and off HJ lake.
