What is your favorite diner for the first night of your trip? It can't be pasta or freeze dried. Not the first night. Never.

This was my favorite first meal ever. Ribeye steak, 1/2 lobster tail, fresh asparagus from my garden and grilled portabella mushrooms.

Wow, barley! You just upped my expectations substantially. Before I saw your photo I would have sworn that ANY meal cooked over the fire in the woods would qualify for my favorite.

Well... That certainly kicks it up a notch! We typically have Ribeyes, baked or fried potato's and corn on the cob. I can see there will be an addition on the next trip!

Quetico152,

If you like eating kraut in the woods, see my backwoods sauerkraut recipe on this forum.

...but be careful Q152!!!!

To date that meal in Barley's photo was the best I've ever had in canoe country.

I always go with steak & spuds for the first meal. The aseafood aspect will have to be considered for next year.

That plate is beautiful.

We do walleye fingers and fresh veggies for an appetizer then Ribeyes or NY Strips, Lamb Chops, potatoes, fresh sweet corn and lots of red wine.

I love the openning night feast!

mr.barley - Very nice presentation! Next trip, I'm going to pack in a toque for you to wear at dinner time. I bet you make a helluva grilled cheese :)
