I married one of them Norwegians but I do have to draw the line on Lutefisk……I like the Rommegrot, Kringla, and Lefse - but not thanks on the above mentioned. Guess anything tastes good if you but enough salt and butter on it.
Hey I wonder how the fish taco would be using some Lefse for the shell?

If Lutefisk is outlawed, only outlaws will have Lutefisk.

My wife's grandparent used to have lutefisk for just about any holiday they had at their house when we first got married. Served with melted butter... it may not have been all that bad, but being German I just couldn't do it...I just couldn't.

I too married one of those MN 100% Norwegian-blood ladys. Her family has it every Christmas. I can not bring myself to eat it. This is no longer real fish.

In comparison, lutefisk makes grits taste good!
P.S. For a grin, run the spell-checker and see what pops up as alternatives to lutefisk.
What's a "glutei"? Must be some sort of left-over lutefisk served on top of grits.

Nice one Jan :)
My family, too, is Norwegian - Gramps had Lutefisk every Christmas (ewwwww!!!) Could never bring myself to try it and even looking at it now makes me gag. Hope that doesn't offend any of you that like it - to each his own!

It starts out as fish (cod), then it gets soaked in lye and dried and packed in wood barrels. The barrels arrive at the big "lutefisk dinner" and the fish is soaked to soften and then boiled and then if you are smart, you throw away the fish and eat the barrels!
"What could happen?"

Having gone to college and lived in Mn. and now living in southern Illinois I can assure all confederates out there Lutefisk and grits will just ruin gd grits. Lutefisk is by far and away the most foul thing I have ever tried. That is no way to treat a fish who gave its life for our enjoyment.

Got to be some other food that is "common" to us Yanks up here in the Northland that can compete with Grits in this discussion, because it sure isn't Lutefisk...how bout a Sven & Ole's Pizza?

Growing up in Minnesota, I woke up every Christmas morning to the smell of cod boiling on the stove.
... never knew how wonderful Christmas can be until I moved away from home.
(Now I understand why I spent every Christmas day playing hockey out on the lake.)

Had Lutefisk in a little cafe in Wabasha a few years back. They were excited to have a "Lutefisk Virgin" in the place. Took great pains to explain it to this outlander. Served it with Norwegian tortillas they called Lefse. Pickled herring, Swedish meatballs and fruit soup. Pretty good meal.

All I know is , how it's made and resurrected, and the chubby food guy on the travel channel gagged whe he had one bite. i've seen him gobble and slurp some of the most disgusting things ever, but he couldn't handle Lutefisk. To each his own though, my wife and kids look with disgust when I drink buttermilk or eat sardines.

My step day, who is 100% Norwegian, gave me the best lutefisk recipe. He said to start with nice fleshy chunks laying on thick cardboard leaning against a fence to dry in the sun. Next, you wait until the neighborhood dogs come by and piss all over them. Then you take the fish off the cardboard and throw the fish into your neighbors yard. Last step, cut cardboard into serving sizes and cook. Best damm lutefisk this side of the Mississippi.

Some people see nature as being made "Just for them", and view others as an invasive species..... We are always hearing about how Social Security is going to run out of money. How come we never hear about Welfare running out of money? What’s interesting is the first group worked for their money .. the second group did not.” WTF???

Well my wife is making bars tonight for the big day at the church tomorrow. THREE MEALS OF LUTEFISK!!! Think that I am going to work late tomorrow.
I know that there will be plenty of you Minnesota people coming down to eat it.

Mother full-blooded Finn
Dad full-blooded Swede
Dad's mom made putrid fish, aka lutefisk
I'll take grits every day of the week over putrid fish.
I do crave good pickled herring, though not the kind down here.
