I found a new product today at Piggly Wiggly Food stores. It's called MiO Liquid water enhancer. Comes in a 1.62 Fluid ounce plastic bottle. Made by Kraft foods. It comes in variuos flavors , I bought the fruit punch. Says it makes up to 24 drinks of 8 oz each. The cost was $3.59. I'll give it a try.

Izzy-I tried the berry-pomegranite flavor of Mio water and liked it alot.

Nice convenient for adding a flavor to water. Small plastic bottle with snap close top. 3 or 4 squirts (to taste) for 16-24 ounces of water. No refrigeration needed.

Only concern would be it opening up in the pack but if you ziplock bag it I am sure it would be fine.

Nice option for flavor in water. 0 calories.

Going to try other flavors next time I get groceries.

I have a coupon for this and thought we'd try it. Much better than having those little packets of crystal light or whatever, and I do like to flavor my BW water.

why do you think it would be better than carrying a much lighter powder?

Jan - I wonder if it is stronger than the powder and maybe get more bang for the buck ? Won't know til I try it.

For the volume of the package. I guess I'll have to buy both to directly compare, but the liquid package seems smaller for the amount that you make; a few drops compared to an entire packet of powder. Also, I appreciate not having those little wrappers to keep track of. That's huge with me because of my kids.

If sucralose/artificial sweetener bothers you, then yes avoid.

Actually, artificial sweeteners in general bother me, as do artificial colors (though not in a physical sense)...and I avoid them to some degree at home. But in the wilds...yeah, whatever. It's a week or two a year.

OK, went grocery shopping.

Bought Crystal Light packets. 10 in a box; makes ten 16-ounce flavored water drinks. Price was 2.49. So you get 10 drinks for 25 cents each. The 10 packets weigh 1.6 ounces in total (I did not weigh the box they came in).

Bought a MiO "liquid water enhancer" (what a stupid term, LOL). It makes twelve 16 ounce drinks. It cost $3.49, but I had a $1.00 off coupon. So regular price it's 29 cents per serving, or with the coupon it was just over 20 cents per serving. The container and liquid weigh 2.5 ounces. So this is slightly more (even given that it's 12 servings instead of 10) and you will be left with a small plastic bottle in your trash. But, for me that is offset by not having those little plastic wrappers to keep track of.

I am not going to perform a test to see how much pressure it takes to pop the top open, though. ;-) I did squeeze it quite hard with my hand and it did not open. (Yes, I removed the plastic wrap sealing it shut first.)

As for the sweeteners...MiO has sucralose and acesulfame potassium, and Crystal Light has aspertame and acesulfame potassium. Both have artificial colors.

One other thing to consider with the MiO is that it seems easier to customize for the size of your water bottle. (to customize the amount of it you're putting in so that you get the flavor you like)

i buy the tubes of crystal lite tubs then transfer all the powder into a 4oz nalgene. i use the screwoff cap as a measuring device. its easy to fine tune that way.

that said, i will have to try the MiO stuff...sounds like there might be more flavors available.

ill definately be trying them at home first, i dont want the previously mentioned side effect to happen up north. :)

Well, duh, that seems like a good solution for the powder packets and the serving size issue. The weight of the two products is probably very similar once you add in the nalgene bottle.

My husband just tried it. He said he likes it better than Crystal Light. It does not give him the same "dry" aftertaste that the CL does.

Here is where I admit that my favorite is full-on sugar Kool Aid.

LOL

...and mines still powdered gatorade. its just too heavy and bulky for me to want to take on a trip.

I will bring a few of the Kool Aid packets. A special treat. ;-)

I was at the Walgreens in Uptown, Minneapolis yesterday and they are selling a special on the Wyler's Light individual 8 count flavored water packets for one dollar a box. I picked up a few.

Thanks for the heads up on MiO...I found it available at Rainbow foods for $3.99

I've always just taken gatorade, but as kanoes said it's a little heavy and bulky. On the plus side, you do get some necessary calories and electrolytes that you don't get with the others. And artificial sweeteners bother me.

No,I like cherry. I prefer black cherry but they don't make the packets (with the sugar already in it) in black cherry.

I got some poemagranite MIO yesterday and it is not bad. I always take Gatorade packets, but they are bulky, heavy and GOOD! Especially with Vodka or EC. I agree that many of the powder packets give and aftertaste. The MIO didnt seem to leave aftertaste.

I will add this to arsonal and also still take a few gatorade packets for VARIETY!

My wife picked up the MiO Sweet Tea. I am having some issues with the amount of mix to water. I am pretty sure that you mix to taste but right now it's hit or miss. Do they have a lemonade yet?
