Something a little different!!
I just had shoulder surgery on May 2nd and do not have my forging abilities back - yet.
This is a 'stock removal' knife.
80CRV2 simple carbon steel. Silk cord wrapped in Samurai fashion over sting ray skin. (This is then treated to remain permanent!)
Very comfortable.
It will get a molded Kydex sheath.

Is the perceived "grain" on the blade from the removal process?
Nice knife by the way.
How come you're not on "Forged In Fire"?
Maybe with a BWCA.COM apron? Ooh ooh and a Portage pack on the whole time.

The "grain" you see is simply remnants from the grinding process.
I have been asked repeatedly to be on FIF. Just not my thing. I'm too busy.
I do, however, most generally know at least one of the contestants, and sometimes two of them. Many times they're in my phone!
Truth - I will be seeing Jason Knight and Doug Marcaida - two of the judges - in Atlanta this coming Thursday. I am a member in two knife organizations in which Jason is also a member.

Over heating is not an issue in any way until after the steel has been hardened and tempered.
When I'm making the blade it's simply just dead soft steel.
