and in episode 2 he says if you fear the water you want to drink is infected with Guardia you just dig about a foot away from the water source and down till you see muddy water and drink away. He said the sand will filter the Guardia out.

This does not make since to me. If that were true wouldn't you be able to make a filter to do the same thing? What am I missing here?

Makes sence to me. The ground filters out all kinds of junk. The parasite Guardia needs to be in water as I remember to live. Don't think it would live through dirt a foot away.

Don't believe or trust bear grylls knowledge. His teachings will put you at risk in a wild situation. Unnecessary risk are to be avoided at any cost if your in true survival situation. And all his advice is for ratings and flash factor. Boil the water giardia is a very real risk. Yes a foot inland in the mudd or sand.

I don't know. But if it's survival,, I'am drinking it PERIOD. I can deal with the implications later,,, at least I have a later.

I also have read the Giradia needs O2-- oxygen (moving water the better) to flourish. I would take my chances with muddy water next to the shoreline in the ground. Might not taste the best with the sediment,, but that sediment is likely keeping out the gut busters.

This is what I would do too. I am in a survival situation and need water to live. If I get Giradia it would be two weeks later and I hope to be safe by then.
