Got out last weekend on the AT near the Peaks of Otter.

Two nights in shelters and a long hike Saturday in the snowstorm. Took about 8 hours to go 7 miles. Got about a foot of snow. No wind made it enjoyable.

Woke up Sunday morning to 10 deg. F. Cannister stove was useless. Alcohol stove took forever to take off. Water bottle in my sleeping bag froze. I stayed comfortable. Two SAR guys were supposed to meet up with me, but they never showed.

Beautifull pictures, I especially like the one of the unbroken snow covered trail.

Great pics! Add gatorade (or anything with sugar and or salt) to your water next time. It will help keep it from freezing (it creates a lower freezing point depression a.k.a. a lower temp required for it to actually freeze).

Salt works also, but does not taste nearly as good:)

I usually have Tang, but it freezes too. Had not thought of the Gatorade.
