03/31/2017 04:59PM You can hike down the beginnings of the beartrap river from the outlet at beartrap lake. It starts with a cool little waterfall and you can follow the stream by rock hopping your way down the hill. There is a moose path of sorts you can follow alongside as well. Once you reach the bottom the forest opens up into a cool meadow and one of the most idyllic scenes I've ever found in the bwca. I spent an entire afternoon down there on a couple different occasions. I recommend bringing a frisbee. We also enjoyed cliff jumping on the north side of beartrap. I think the shelf we jumped off was about 10 feet high. I can't vouch for the safety of this as we were young and dumb at the time, you will need to check it for yourself. P.S. - I highly recommend the site on beartrap as your basecamp spot. You have the lake to yourself and the site is as nice as I've seen up there |

03/29/2017 11:35AM dontgoenuf, I've traveled thru this area a couple of times and tried to remember anything that might be of interest to your group. Keep in mind that we were usually just passing thru and didn't spend much time hunting things to do or see. One thing we did do: we camped one day on Thunder Lake's north west shore right by the portage to Beartrap. That campsite offers an easy climb up to a beautiful lookout offering a great vista of the lake and a good picture taking opportunity. canoerone P.S. If my memory serves me right, that was also a pretty nice campsite. |

03/28/2017 10:09AM We are taking a 6 day non-fishing trip to the above area and will basecamp on one of those lakes, besides basic tooling around and relaxing, are there site seeing areas? Most of what I've found talks about fishing which we are not doing. Any old logging artifacts, areas of interest, etc... that we could venture to. We will probably do a short hike on the angleworm trail, so anything additional you know of where to visit would be appreciated. Thanks |
