That's an early trip. Get there before the bugs do :)"

That's my plan!! I always try and get in before fishing opener, and again in Sept, or Oct. No bugs, not many people, makes me a happy camper!

A day trip to Johnson Falls is always going to be worth the time also. Don't be intimidated by the long portage to get there, it's over hyped.

The campsite on the south eastern side of Alder is very nice with good trails to fish from."

Thanks for the great info about splake on pierz and how to cook them!! And for the campsite recommendation. does this site have good trees for hammock camping? We are thinking about trying out hammocks this year. "

Happy to help! It is a great site for hammocks. I hung pretty near the lake when I was there a few years back. There is also a back door access to the site from the bay behind the site. We caught tons of bass back there. It's a nice place to pull up your boat of you want. "

Thanks again for the info!!

Our spring trips have been 1-2 portages in and basecamp for a 4-5 days but this year we may be entering on Sunday of Memorial Weekend. Might be better to just wait until Monday?

Any ideas for 1-2 portages in and a scenic spot with decent fishing? We have recently been to Lake One, Crocodile and last year to gabbro for this trip.

Considering Slim, is it worth it? Other ideas? "

Yes, Slim is worth it. The elevated site is very nice. Good bass and northern fishing.
August 4th for us. Less than four months but seems like a year.....

On June 12th my son and I are putting in at EP64 for our 2nd trip to BWCA. Trying to make final plans and getting excited. I'm sure the 13hour drive will all be worth it again. Anyone have any last suggestions for the area?
