That time of year you can do some of the routes that are too busy for summer travel.
Try the Number lakes - (Lake 1-4) Close to entry, just a couple of small portages, some great sites near the Lake 2-3 narrows, and decent fishing. Or even go on over to Insula for a beach site on the eastern side.

We did a base camp trip at the end of August 2016 on the S. Kawishiwi River EP 32. Easy portaging and paddling and had great fishing. Easy to get to the Gabro lakes for day trips, we had good walleye fishing close to the camp site and were able to find some monster slab crappies.
