Clearwater Motor Trip 2010 "

My kind of Trip Report with the intricate details I need to know, like the 3AM potty break on day 3.

Like jamotrade says, that wind is no joke. When it gets howling down the lake the waves are big boys. Early morning travel is generally best. When I did it via canoe we left a day early just because the wind was good that morning.

Here's how we left it when we hiked the Mountain Lake portage and checked out the views on the Border Route Trail.
jamotrade 08/18/2017 12:57PM
We used a 14' Lund and just dragged it up on shore.
WI Paddler 08/17/2017 04:03PM
We used a flat bottom and removed the motor and pulled on shore when not in use, but would be interested to see if anyone else has done something else or have a better method.

My mistake.....we stayed at 684, and yes, it does connect with the BRT. 679 and 682 were the other 2 we checked.

quote cowdoc: "I have not done it but yes, you can. 3 permits per day I believe. Max 10hp motors. Sites 679, 681 looked nice and we stayed at 682 which was nice (far east site). We only stayed one night in late August and we only saw one boat make the long ride to the far east end."

Yes, 682 and 684 are both nice - facing morning sun and calm from the whipping west to east winds. Stayed in 683, I'd not do that again. 684 has a path to the Border Route Trail, I'd bet the same for 682 with a great overlook very nearby. A lot of the sites in the middle of Clearwater are a challenge to find, and I was in a canoe when I tried looking.

So are you asking if you can camp on clearwater lake using a boat with a motor at the designated sites on clearwater lake? As in keeping the motor boat at the site while you camp?
